GRF nominated for two Sandford Awards

GRF is delighted to have two programmes shortlisted for this year’s prestigious Sandford St Martin Awards.

Our documentary about Mary Livingstone, Mrs Livingstone I Presume?, is shortlisted in the Radio category (and is the only non-BBC produced or broadcast programme in that category).

Mrs Livingstone I Presume? was broadcast by Premier Radio in London on 27 May 2013. Read more information about the programme.

In the Podcasts category, our Christmas edition of smallVOICE has been shortlisted. You can find out more about the podcast on the smallVOICE website: and you can listen to the podcast here.

The Sandford St Martin Awards are broadcast awards for radio and TV programmes that reflect religious, spiritual or ethical themes. The winners will be announced in a ceremony at Lambeth Palace on 3 June 2014.

Mrs Livingstone, I Presume?

Christian missionary David Livingstone’s bicentennial is celebrated this year, but in all the coverage, little mention has been made of his wife Mary, who shared two of his great expeditions across the Kalahari. She was pregnant both times and, on the second trip, actually gave birth in the scrubland in a make-shift camp. Born in Africa, died in Africa, Mary still lives in the shadow of her famous husband.

GRF’s radio programme, ‘Mrs Livingstone, I Presume?’, tells the lost story of Mary Livingstone, missionary, wife and mother. Based on recent research by journalist and travel writer, Julie Davidson, and by Marion Moffatt, Mary’s great-great-grand niece, this 27-minute radio programme is broadcast on Premier Christian Radio, Heartland FM (Pitlochry), Manx FM (Isle of Man) and on other stations across the UK.
